Food allergies are twice as common in children as in adults, the allergy academy says. The good news for people with food allergies is that restaurants, airlines and stores are becoming more aware of the problem and are often helping to identify what ingredients are in their meals. A new federal law, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act, took effect Jan. 1 and requires
manufacturers to label in common language the eight most common allergy-triggering substances. No longer is "artificial flavoring" sufficient on a food label
